Last year we launched our award winning1 ALTIRIS® infrared reflecting pigment, a titanium dioxide pigment designed to help support a global challenge to reduce energy usage.2

ALTIRIS® pigment reflects solar energy better3 and is designed to work in coatings and polymer products of almost any color.

1. ALTIRIS® pigment won the IChemE 2012 award for product innovation.

2. World Business Council for Sustainable Development (2009). Transforming the Market Energy Efficiency in Buildings, target is set against the predicted Business as Usual (BAU) figures for 2050, which is a minimum requirement to generate stablized CO levels as sought by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) .

3. Compared to TIOXIDE® pigment. Our specialist research team prepares coatings and polymers containing ALTIRIS® pigment and control samples using TIOXIDE® pigment with the same RAL index. We then compare Total Solar Reflectance using a Cary 5000 spectrophotometer. We use a method to measure heat build up in polymers based on 'Use of reflectance spectra to predict heat build up of pigmented PVC panels; Sullivan, Peak: 1993.

4. "Monitoring the Energy-use Effects of Cool roofs on Caluifornia Commercial Buildings", Akbari, Levinson, Konopaki, Rainer 2004. This report identified that an increase in SRI delivers energy cost savings, CO2, NOx and SO2 reductions.
