The Greatham Site
|
The structure of this BAP will be similar to that of the local BAP for the area in which the Greatham site lies, the Tees Valley BAP. The Greatham Site IBAP will be following the same guidelines as the Tees Valley BAP so that as far as possible it will adhere to a similar approach. The Tees Valley BAP in turn adheres to a similar approach as the UK BAP. The IBAP document has been produced in a ring-bound paper and web-enabled format, enabling sections to be taken out and changed as the IBAP progresses. If targets are met and further management plans need to be added, then it can be simply done. This format also allows divider pages to be included so that the different sections of the IBAP are clearly defined and easy to find. The IBAP is split into two different sections, Habitat Action Plans and Species Action Plans. Each of these sections will have sub-sections. In the case of Habitat Action Plans, the sub-sections will be the different habitats present on the site. For each habitat there will be a list of key species concerned with that type of habitat and a list of the important species present on the Greatham site. These important species have been chosen if they are in the UK or local BAP, or both. Also listed are any red data species that are breeding on the site. A small number of important species will be focused on in each habitat. These will be the indicator species for the habitat, where monitoring will be undertaken to ensure they remain at their present level, or hopefully improve. If the habitat is managed to ensure the target species are looked after, then it is thought that this management will also be beneficial to all the other species on that habitat. Each habitat section will have management suggestions if necessary. The Species Action Plan section will have separate Action Plans for each of the main species mentioned in the habitats section, to complement the Habitat Action Plans. The general Action Plans for separate species will mainly be annual monitoring exercises, as the management for their habitats will have been covered in the habitats section. |
