Burnie, Tasmania

Eucalyptus woods on the former Tioxide Site at Burnie, TasmaniaThe former Tioxide property covered 380 ha and was located on the north coast of Tasmania 5 km east of Burnie. Production ceased in the early 1990s and the site buildings and infrastructure have now been demolished.

The flat area formerly occupied by the production plant will eventually be re-developed for industrial use by a new owner.

For completeness this site is included in the present study since Tioxide, for many years, managed the undeveloped areas for wildlife conservation. These wild areas of woodland and bushland, together with some small wetland areas, will remain in ICI’s ownership and the wildlife conserved.
