Habitats on Greatham Site

The Tioxide site covers approximately 89 ha of which nearly 70 ha comprising mainly of wetlands are undeveloped. The remaining area of Greenabella Marsh lies immediately to the southwest of the Tioxide property and is owned by Ineos Chlor Ltd. This section is continuous with the Tioxide land and for ecological purposes should be regarded as part of the same site.

A number of habitats are present with various wetlands being ecologically the most important (see Figure 3). The habitats on the site include:

  • Wetlands
    • Brackish and saline pools
    • Freshwater pools
    • Reed and rush marsh
    • Drainage stells and ditches
  • Grassland
  • Taller herbs and shrubs
  • Sparsely vegetated and bare areas
  • Production plant structures
