Mammals

RabbitRabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus) is the only wild mammal so far recorded on the Tioxide site, where, from droppings and other signs, it is apparently common. There is however, potential for other species to occur in the future since at least 49 species of mammls have been recorded in Andalusia (Mountfort 1958). However, of these 14 are bats the distribution of which is unclear, and some such as the Wolf (Canus lupus) are rare or like Barbary Ape (Macaca sylvanus), which is only found on Gibraltar, have a very restricted range. Nevertheless, even some rare species, such as the Spanish Lynx (Felis pardina) has been recorded in the Odiel Marsh area.
