Introduction

This report presents an overview of the biodiversity and nature conservation potential of all Tioxide pigments sites of Huntsman around the world. It is accepted however, that the detail of the biological surveys varies with different sites. In some areas detailed wildlife observations have been made for many years and have covered all seasons. On other sites the information on flora and fauna is more limited with only preliminary surveys carried out over a limited period. Further, not all taxonomic groups have been studied to the same extent. On most sites there is a considerable amount of information available on bird populations, and many species of aquatic invertebrates have been studied as part of the Company’s routine effluent monitoring programme. Many plant and terrestrial invertebrate communities however, still require further study.

A number of recommendations are made for further ecological work to be carried out on and around Tioxide sites and based on current knowledge some projects have been identified to conserve and enhance the biodiversity. It is accepted however, that some of these preliminary recommendations might need to be modified as a results of further survey work.
