Residential applications

Methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI)-based polyurethane insulation offers residential builders and home renovators solutions that combine one of the highest thermal resistance (R-values) at a given thickness and lowest thermal conductivity with superior mechanical properties.

In residential applications, polyurethane insulation helps to create an envelope around the home to reduce air infiltration, thereby making the home more energy efficient. Additionally, polyurethane insulation helps prevent air, sound, water and vapor infiltration, which creates a more comfortable indoor air quality.

For the residential market, Huntsman provides polyurethanes for spray foam, insulated metal panel and boardstock/sheathing insulation systems, one component foam and much more. These solutions make it easier to create a tight thermal air barrier, regulate temperature fluctuations and control heating/cooling costs.

Additionally, the use of polyurethane insulation products in residential and commercial buildings helps meet advanced energy codes and building certifications, e.g., ASHRAE 90.1, BREEAM®, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen e.V. (DGNB), LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and Haute Qualité Environnementale (HQE).
