Ramatex Forms Strategic Partnership with Huntsman to Lead Textile Industry in Addressing Hazardous Chemicals Concerns in Support of Nike’s Road to Zero Goals
Malaysia – Ramatex, a leader in the textiles industry and a world-class manufacturer for textiles and garments, is taking the lead in its industry to begin the process to eliminate the discharge of hazardous chemicals in their manufacturing processes.
Since the release of the ‘Dirty Laundry’ reports by international environmental campaign group Greenpeace, six of the world’s leading brands have publicly committed to the goal of eliminating hazardous chemicals through the joint roadmap ‘Towards Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals.
Though the implementation poses significant challenges due to complexities in the textile supply chain, Ramatex is among the first textile manufacturers publicly committed to rise to the challenge.
“We believe the solution to the issues already exists. Alternative chemistries are available and Ramatex is determined to become the first supplier in the world to produce fabrics and garments which are fully compliant with the commitments in the roadmap, “said Mr. Ma Wong Ching, Chairman of Ramatex.” We have formed a strategic partnership with Huntsman Textile Effects and together, we will drive the initiative and create a template for others in the industry to follow.
“We are very excited with the strategic partnership between Ramatex and Huntsman Textile Effects. This kind of collaboration will allow Nike to begin to address some of the key challenges we face in implementing the Road to Zero goals,” said Eric Sprunk, Nike’s Vice President of Merchandise and Product. “Using this partnership as a template for others in our supply chain gives Nike a path to real, sustainable change within the footwear and apparel industry”.
Ramatex has a socially responsible approach to its manufacturing and is committed to embracing environmental standards as a core part of its manufacturing processes. This allows them to create a more sustainable approach to their high-quality production by minimizing energy
usage, adopting waste & water recycling and using state-of-the-art chemicals and dyes.
