MUMBAI, India - Protecting our local communities from COVID-19 continues to be a top priority for Huntsman. Our associates in India have been actively working on initiatives that focus on the health and welfare of rural communities.

Recently, Huntsman India installed more than 2,000 isolation protection sheets in auto-rickshaws across Mumbai, Pune, and Baroda. They protect drivers and passengers, as well as create awareness about coronavirus vaccinations and precautionary measures.

The sheet provides a barrier for the passengers and drivers while maintaining safe social distancing protocols. The Huntsman team also organized awareness sessions for drivers, explaining coronavirus safety measures, good hygiene habits and the importance of vaccinations.

JAKARTA, Indonesia – The Huntsman Textile Effects manufacturing site in Gandaria, near Jakarta, has become the fourth Huntsman location to begin production of hand sanitizer for donation amid the global Covid-19 pandemic.

Huntsman will deliver 4,000 tons of medical-grade hand sanitizer to the University of Indonesia each month for the next six months. The 24 metric tons of bulk product will be re-packed and labelled by the University for distribution to hospitals, health centers and workers on the frontlines of the pandemic across the nation.

Besides Gandaria, Huntsman is also producing hand sanitizer in Alabama, USA, Monthey, Switzerland, and Melbourne, Australia as part of the corporation’s international Covid-19 response.

ZEROSTAT® NW is our primary recommend antistatic agent for polypropylene (PP) nonwoven which provide antistatic effect without influencing hydrostatic pressure, alcohol & blood repellence on PP-SMS & PP-SSMMS medical nonwoven articles.  

PHOBOL® NW-MD is an oil and water repellent fluorocarbon treatment specifically developed for PP and PET nonwoven materials. Displaying an excellent barrier effect, PHOBOL® NW-MD prevents oil, alcohol or water-based stains from penetrating into the substrate.

For nonwoven and woven Facemasks, PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT(PPE) such as surgical gowns and scrubs, we can offer a range of products meeting the broad spectrum of repellency requirements for durable and non-durable applications. It exhibits good repellency against various liquid chemicals and oil repellency and water-based stains penetrating into substrates.

PHOBOL® CP-HT is an oil, water and stain repellent finish specifically developed for high-performance specialty and technical textiles (aramid and military fabric). It displays an excellent barrier effect- hydro-head performance & dynamic absorption. It exhibits strong oil repellency and water-based stains penetrating into the substrate.

PHOBOL® CP-SY is a good protection against liquid chemicals for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) suitable on substrates for synthetic, cellulosic and synthetic/cellulose fabrics. The raw materials include methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) and TEROL^® polyester polyol, which are used to manufacture prefabricated panels for the construction of hospitals and spandex needed for the production of medical protective articles.

As part of this donation, Huntsman provided the raw materials to a customer, Tianfon Assembly Group, which has 20 years of experience in the prefabricated buildings industry. With these raw materials, Tianfon is producing polyurethane insulation boards for the construction of hospitals.

Huntsman also arranged the logistics to ensure the efficient delivery of materials to support frontline health workers. By coordinating the resources across the supply chain, Huntsman ensured the on-time delivery of the raw materials.

Contributing to hospital construction

As the epidemic spreads in China, the problem of insufficient hospital beds has become prominent, seriously affecting efforts to combat the coronavirus. The construction of new isolation hospitals and mobile cabin hospitals is critical.

Recycled from PET bottles, TEROL® polyester polyol can be used to produce polyurethane sandwich panels, which are widely used in the insulation structures of prefabricated buildings such as mobile cabin hospitals. The panel can be installed swiftly and have excellent insulation performance.

Supporting the production of medical protective articles

To alleviate the shortage of raw materials for producing medical supplies for frontline health workers, Huntsman also donated its pure MDI to Huafon Group to support its production of spandex and microfiber for medical protective articles.

Spandex and microfiber can be used to produce medical protective items such as masks and gloves. Huafon is a leading spandex and microfiber manufacturer in China, whose spandex and microfiber capacity accounts for 25% and 50% of the national capacity respectively

Since the outbreak of Covid-19, factories in China have been working round the clock to meet the growing demand for medical face masks and protective wear.

On Feb. 6, TE China received an urgent order from a customer for 10 tons of ZEROSTAT® NW and 4 tons of PHOBOL® NW-MD, finishing chemicals necessary to produce medical face masks. The customer, based in the Guangdong province, was assigned by the China National Ministry of Industrial Information to produce 10 billion medical face masks at immediate notice.

As quarantine efforts had expanded nationwide and several cities were under lockdown, most of TE’s vendors remained closed after the Lunar New Year. Despite such challenges, the TE China South Commercial team promptly worked together to liaise with raw material vendors to resume production and effectively managed all supply and logistics issues at our Panyu site.

The Panyu team rendered full support by mobilizing all available resources. As a result of solid teamwork, dedicated planning and commitment, the TE China team swiftly responded to the customer’s urgent order. On Feb. 11, the first batch of 1 ton of ZEROSTAT® NW was delivered and subsequently, another 4 tons of PHOBOL® NW-MD were delivered on Feb. 13 to the customer.

Apart from this customer, TE also supplied the same products to other customers in Hubei province. Since the Covid-19 outbreak, the TE China team has delivered a total of 21.6 tons of PHOBOL® NW-MD and 12 tons of ZEROSTAT& reg; NW for the production of medical masks and protection suits.
