Singapore – As the global market for dyed yarns and fabrics becomes increasingly competitive, Huntsman Textile Effects is helping Queen South Textile Mills reinforce its industry leadership with a renewed emphasis on environmental and economic sustainability.

Under a Memorandum of Understanding signed on 4th May, Huntsman Textile Effects will collaborate with Queen South Textile Mills to ensure it is among the first to adopt the latest sustainability innovations. It will also support Queen South Textile Mills streamline its operations and optimize its processes by implementing a Productivity Improvement Program (PIP) at the company’s textile mill in Dhaka and providing technical support and staff training.

This strategic cooperation will help Queen South Textile Mills maintain its leading edge through innovation while continuing to comply with the stringent requirements of its export customers around the world.

Queen South Textile Mills has already adopted advanced Huntsman Textile Effects technologies, including the market-leading AVITERA® SE dyes. An award-winning flagship dye technology for exhaust application on cellulosic fibers, AVITERA® SE dyes meet increasingly stringent environmental standards and help textile mills improve their productivity and profitability for better economic sustainability. Now available in a broad palette color spectrum with highest light fastness, AVITERA® SE dyes significantly reduce water and energy consumption and carbon emissions by up to 50 percent.

“We are honored to be an innovation partner in Queen South Textile Mills’ drive for increased sustainability,” said Mr Chuck Hirsch, Vice President, Sales and Technical Resources of Huntsman Textile Effects. “Bangladesh is an important market for us and we are pleased to collaborate with leading and like-minded companies here, such as Queen South Textile Mills, as they equip themselves to better support brands & retailers in building a more environmentally sustainable textile supply chain.”

Experts from Huntsman Textile Effects will carry out a full operational audit at the Queen South Textile Mills’ Dhaka facility and recommend ways for the mill to improve productivity and profitability. Implemented in many mills around the world, the Huntsman PIP has proven to be capable of reducing water consumption by as much as 50% and energy consumption by 30% while increasing output by 30% and more using existing plant. Mr Ajay Kanwar, Sales Director (SAME, Turkey and Africa) of Huntsman, added, “We are delighted to partner with Queen South Textile Mills, a textile manufacturing company that is well respected in Bangladesh and around the world. Together, we envision working together to ensure a bright and sustainable future for Queen South Textile Mills and the Bangladesh textile industry.”

Bangladesh’s textile industry is the nation’s largest export sector. The ready-made garment (RMG) sector was worth US$24.5* billion in 2013-2014, when more than 4,200 garment factories employed about 4 million people and accounted for 81% of the country’s total exports. To remain internationally competitive, local textile mills and RMG factories increasingly have to demonstrate that they operate in a socially and environmentally sustainable way.
