Huntsman Advanced Materials Introduces Four New Products at SAMPE 2019: Making a Material Difference through Chemistry

THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS – Huntsman Advanced Materials will be showcasing its evolving portfolio of high-performance adhesives and composites systems with the launch of four new products at SAMPE 2019 in Charlotte, NC, May 21-22, Booth K-12.  New products debuting at this year’s show include new adhesives and void fillers, alongside ongoing advances in industry-leading lightweighting solutions and carbon nanotechnology. From concept and design, through to maintenance and repair, Huntsman experts will be on hand to discuss the latest innovations and how they are meeting both current and emerging customer needs.

“Generating value for our customers is key for Huntsman Advanced Materials. That means developing products which have superior properties, made in fully qualified production facilities with reliable supply chains that can be applied efficiently at customer sites,” says Derek Crofton VP Americas for Advanced Materials. “We have built a strong business over the last 50 years based on these principles and plan to be a sustainable supplier for decades to come.”

The newest products developed for the Aerospace market include EPOCAST® 1648 and EPOCAST® 1649-1 Edge and Void Fillers for aircraft interior construction. Both products offer low density, fast cure and meet Flame, Smoke and Toxicity (FST) requirements. Applications include insert potting, ditch potting, edge filling and the reinforcement of honeycomb structures. Both new products create weight savings which can lead to improved productivity, as well as greater through put.

EPOCAST® 1648 Edge & Void Filler offers a high compressive strength of 7,250 psi (49.9 MPa) which makes it perfect for utilization in higher load applications. EPOCAST® 1649-1 Edge & Void Filler offers an easy-to-use mix ratio and a 12-month shelf life.

“Working closely with our aerospace customers, we are developing solutions that address critical needs across many platforms,” says Angela Cooper, Aerospace Marketing Manager Americas.  “Essentially, we’re helping our customers simplify their product toolbox by giving them products that can be used in several different applications across the airplane.  By delivering differentiated product offerings, our customers can reap the benefits of improved productivity, while also lowering their inventory costs.”

Huntsman Advanced Materials will also be introducing its latest advances in high-performance adhesives, with the launch of a new acrylate product range for extreme conditions. ARALDITE® 2050 and ARALDITE® 2051 Structural Adhesives extend Huntsman’s already wide-ranging portfolio, speeding up bonding operations in sub-zero temperatures, and in saltwater or high humidity conditions.

ARALDITE® 2050 Structural Adhesive is an ultra-fast curing, two-part acrylate designed to accelerate the structural bonding of thermoplastics, composites and metals at temperatures from -20 to 25°C (-4 to 77°F) without additional heat. ARALDITE® 2051 Structural Adhesive is a fast curing, two-part acrylate that provides high toughness and resilience to vibrations, impact and dynamic loading at temperatures from 0 to 40°C (32 to 104°F) without additional heat. Both adhesives require virtually no surface preparation, offer outstanding adhesion on dissimilar substrates and excellent ageing/weathering resistance.

“Many industries have to contend with very rough environments during bonding operations throughout the year. This new line of adhesives will allow users to increase bond speed and adhesion performance in the most demanding conditions,” says Jose Fanjul, Strategic Marketing Manager for Adhesives Americas. “We continue to invest in innovative, structural adhesive solutions to increase productivity at the customer level and help them meet their challenges head on.”

Other innovative materials showcased during the show will include solutions from Miralon, Huntsman’s recently acquired carbon-based advanced materials business.  Lightweight and resistant in the most demanding environments, MIRALON® sheets, yarns and pulps possess strength, ductility and electrical conductivity.

In addition to our product offerings, Huntsman will be presenting a technical paper during the conference:

Thursday May 23 - Room 209A - 11:30AM
“Novel FST Thermoset Solution for Lightweight Composite Aerospace Interior Applications”, presented by George Guo.
