Building and Construction

Huntsman offers a range of innovative product solutions that improve the efficiency and sustainability of building, construction and infrastructure projects across the world.  Our energy-saving thermal insulation, coatings and adhesives, composite wood products, thermoplastic polyurethanes and foams help our customers develop applications for flooring, roofs, walls, facades, doors, windows, driveways, roads, bridges and pipes.

Building and Construction Materials

Huntsman produces a wide range of innovative materials that are used in building, construction and infrastructure.

Our MDI-based adhesive systems are non-added formaldehyde, fast curing resins used in the manufacture of composite wood products (CWP), including oriented strand board, medium density fiberboard, particleboard and wood fiber insulation board.

Huntsman’s polyurethane components and systems are used in weather protectant coatings and structural adhesives

Our ethylenamine products form integral building blocks in value-adding asphalt emulsion chemistries. The materials created from Huntsman products enable higher quality asphalts with stronger cohesion, warm-mix technologies that save energy and placement cost and give producers the ability to add greater quantities of recycled components.

Our amines help control the density, porosity and flow of concrete and help reduce cement particle sizes to create a uniform mix.

Building Envelope

The building envelope is the physical separator between the conditioned and unconditioned environment of a building and comprises the roof, sub floor, exterior doors, windows and exterior wall, which together provide resistance to air, water, heat, light, and noise transfer.

Huntsman provides a wide array of innovative solutions which enhance the integrity of the building envelope.

Energy efficiency in buildings begins with the building envelope. A ‘tight’ building envelope prevents air, moisture and noise infiltration, leads to reduced energy usage and lower utility costs. MDI-based polyurethane insulation is the most effective insulant available in the market, with the highest thermal resistance (R-values) at a given thickness and the lowest thermal conductivity. It is widely used in roofs, walls, floors and ceiling cavities, as well as in building exterior applications, in both new and retrofit construction projects.

Our ARALDITE® epoxy resins and ARADUR ® curing agents are used by flooring formulators for: primers on green concrete or other unprepared surfaces with a fast return to service; conductive epoxy layers to safely dissipate the electrostatic potential and prevent damage to equipment and personnel; decorative, non-yellowing topcoats, providing both esthetics and performance.

Our non-added formaldehyde medium density fiberboard (MDF) is widely used in flooring and doors. We produce roofing membranes and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU films) for glazing applications

Infrastructure

Polyurea and industrial coatings based on Huntsman’s MDI technology help to waterproof and maintain the life of pipes, bridges, roads, steps, concrete, walking paths, sidewalks and jogging trails. Polyurethane insulation is also used by district energy companies to insulate water pipes, which heat and cool homes and businesses throughout cities around the world.

Our ARALDITE® epoxy and ARADUR® building blocks are used by formulators to develop chemical anchoring solutions giving superior properties and workability, and to develop protective coatings and layers against chemical attacks and fire, as well as abrasion and mechanical stress.

Insulation

MDI-based polyurethane insulation is the most effective insulant available in the market, with the highest thermal resistance (R-values) at a given thickness and the lowest thermal conductivity. It is widely used in roofs, walls, floors and ceiling cavities, as well as in building exterior applications, in both new and retrofit construction projects. Huntsman’s polyurethane systems and components are used in the manufacture of rigid foam boardstock (board and block), insulated metal panels, structural insulated panels and one-component foam, all of which are used in commercial and residential roofing and wall applications.

Use of polyurethane insulation in buildings helps meet advanced energy codes, energy efficiency legislation, contributes toward green building certifications and provides comfort to the building occupants.

Huntsman Building Solutions is one of the world’s leading spray polyurethane foam (SPF) businesses. As the fastest growing building insulation product globally, SPF can help reduce energy cost in new and existing buildings by as much as 50 percent. SPF functions as both an insulant and an air-sealing product, thereby reducing energy loss due to air infiltration. Huntsman also supplies the systems found in one-component foam, which is used to fill in cracks and gaps around door jams and utility openings.

Our large family of JEFFCAT® catalysts brings power, speed and strength to a wide range of both closed-cell and open-cell polyurethane formulated systems.
