Huntsman Returns to Khimia with Formula for Success

EVERBERG, Belgium - Huntsman, one of the world’s largest chemical companies, is returning to Moscow in September to exhibit at its third successive Khimia - the international trade show for the chemical and science industries in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). The exhibition takes place at the Moscow ExpoCentre from September 28 to October 2, 2009 and the Huntsman stand is at Pavilion 2, Hall 2, Stand 22D55.

This year, the sheer breadth of new chemistries and solutions available from Huntsman will assure Khimia visitors of the company’s formula for continued market leadership; and its unwavering commitment to innovation, despite the recent global downturn.

For one week, a 10-strong team of Huntsman associates will promote an array of new Advanced Materials, Polyurethanes and Performance Products solutions. Particular emphasis will be placed on chemical ingredients and systems that can add value in Russian and CIS automotive, energy and construction markets.

Accelerating automotive developments: Automotive sales may be down in many markets but Huntsman continues to drive ahead with the creation and adoption of new technologies in the sector. At Khimia, the company’s Polyurethanes team will showcase two new products, which can lower total system costs and offer significant performance advantages.
• SHOKLESSTM is a microcellular elastomer designed for suspension applications such as spring aids, bump stops and engine mounts. It is a high performance alternative to current solutions such as traditional 1,5-Naphthalene Diisocyanate (NDI) and rubber-based systems and offers both commercial advantages and production flexibility to deliver total-part cost reduction opportunities.
• RUBIFLEX® Lite is a new, low-density MDI seating foam product. Ideally suited to technically demanding applications such as seat backs and rear seat cushions, it can help automotive customers achieve the right balance of comfort, durability and differentiation, while optimizing processing efficiencies and costs.

Other solutions on display will include Huntsman’s RENSHAPE® stereo lithography materials, rapid-setting polyurethanes for prototyping, composites for auto part development and component assembly.

A powerful interest in energy: World energy consumption is growing and the market for engineering solutions that can help create new ways to generate power, or make existing methods more efficient, remains buoyant. The Advanced Materials division of Huntsman will launch at Khimia a series of new products that can be used across the entire energy value chain to create cleaner, greener technologies.

Highlights will include two award-winning ARALDITE® resin systems for graphite composite fuel cells used in automotive and stationary power applications; a new line of ARALDITE® adhesives featuring nano-technology and suitable for bonding wind turbine blades; adhesives and sealants for use in solar heating panels; solar reflective coatings; and encapsulation materials that can stop moisture and oxygen affecting the performance of Organic Light Emitting Devices (OLEDs) – paper thin, lightweight, flexible solutions that consume 70% less energy than current light bulbs.

Huntsman is also likely to generate significant interest in its hydrophobic ARALDITE® S-HCEP epoxy resin-based insulation materials for outdoor power transmission applications and its methods for reducing the cost of producing photovoltaic solar cells.

Building an inspired future: Parts of the construction industry have been hit hard by the recent global economic downturn. However, new fire and insurance regulations mean demand for sandwich panels is likely to remain high in future new build and refurbishment programmes. Anticipating ongoing growth, the Polyurethanes division of Huntsman has improved the flexibility, functionality and bond strength of its continuous panel laminating (CPL) adhesives. These products, which are typically based on either SUPRASEC® MDI or a DALTOFOAM® formulated polyol blend, can improve the large-scale manufacture and overall quality and performance of construction panels.

Huntsman has also developed a new technology for fire-retarding polyisocyanurate (PIR) sandwich panels. INSPIRE® PIR is different to competitor sandwich panel solutions. It removes the need for an adhesive layer between foam and steel facings and is thermally more stable. Three different INSPIRE® PIR technologies are available, all of which are lightweight, moisture resistant and offer excellent thermal conductivity.

All the right ingredients: Speciality components that offer chemists, scientists and formulators the chance to enhance the performance of their products will also be on display at Khimia. The Advanced Materials division will showcase its toolbox of glycidylamines; dicyclopentadiene-based novolacs; polymide and polyamidoimide resins; and benzoxaxines. The Performance Products division will promote a vast portfolio of intermediates that include JEFFAMINE® amines; JEFFLINK® chain extenders; and a new bio-based product called JEFFSOL® glycerine carbonate - a unique non-VOC difunctional cyclic carbonate for coatings, solvents, polymer and personal care applications. Also on show will be new speciality surfactants and sulphosuccinate wetting agents for emulsion and waterborne applications; a new JEFFCAT® amine catalyst for polyurethanes; and a green solvent-based technology platform for paint, coating, cleaning and paint stripping applications.

Valery Drognev, head of Huntsman’s office in Moscow said, “Every two years, Khimia provides Huntsman with the opportunity to show our customers and prospects the full extent of our work. This year we feel we have the right ingredients for a very successful show. Where other companies may have cut back on R&D in the last six to twelve months, Huntsman has forged ahead. We are now in a position to launch new systems and solutions to the Russian and CIS markets that will offer our customers significant financial and performance advantages. We look forward to taking these products to Khimia and receiving feedback from our partners and prospects across the region.”
