Corporate Social Responsibility in India
India has the world’s richest tradition of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Corporations and industrial majors have long been associated with many social engagements and development activities in the country. However, since enactment of Section 135 of the Companies Act 2013 (the "Act") and the Companies (CSR Policy) Rules, 2014 (Rules) notified by Ministry of orporate Affairs, Government of India, CSR is mandatory for certain eligible companies. This puts formal responsibility on companies to construct concrete frameworks to conduct CSR exercises and develop processes to ensure compliance.
