Huntsman to Take Performance Chemistries to Paint India

Paint India 2016, Bombay Exhibition Centre, Goregaon, Mumbai, India
21 to 23 January 2016 - visit Huntsman at Stand B12 in Hall 1

Mumbai, INDIA – When the 2016 Paint India exhibition and conference opens for business tomorrow, global chemical company Huntsman will be in attendance, promoting a range of chemistries that can help simplify the formulation of paints and coatings, and improve their performance.

Huntsman has teams of scientists who are dedicated to the development of functional chemicals, and polymers and resins, for the paint and coatings industry. At Paint India these professionals will be talking to attendees about the range of surfactants that are available for paint, ink and other color dispersion applications. Under its TERIC® brand name, Huntsman offers a wide selection of surfactants that can help stabilize paint formulations and deliver excellent wetting properties.

The unique structure of Huntsman’s amines – used to modify epoxy resins and prepare high performance waterborne epoxy resin emulsions – will also be highlighted at the show. Huntsman’s range of SURFONAMINE® amines for the paint and coatings industry can alter the surface properties of pigments and enhance functions such as dispersion, gloss, color strength and stability. Huntsman is also well known for its JEFFAMINE® amines. Products from this range, which will be promoted at Paint India, include:

  • JEFFAMINE® M-2070 polyetheramine to give hydrophilicity to waterborne epoxy coatings
  • JEFFAMINE® D-230 polyetheramine to help develop tough, clear, impact resistant flooring coatings with excellent adhesive properties for marble crack filling and civil engineering projects
  • JEFFAMINE® RFD-270 polyetheramine – a low VOC solution with excellent blushing, high impact strength and good chemical resistance for high-end floor coatings.

Many of the performance chemistries that Huntsman produces for the paint and coatings industry are manufactured at the company’s production plant at Ankleshwar in the state of Gujurat. Huntsman acquired the plant, which has a capacity of 60,000 metric tonnes, back in April 2011.

Steve Marangos, Global Director of Polymers & Resins at Huntsman Performance Products, said: “The Indian paint and coatings sector is dynamic and has grown rapidly over recent years – making it a key market for our specialist performance chemistries and additives. From our production plant in Ankleshwar we develop and manufacture a wide range of chemistries that can enhance the manufacture and functionality of domestic, decorative and industrial paints and coatings. Bringing balance and stability to complex epoxy, polyurethane and acrylic resin-based formulations, these products make it easier to modify reactivity, improve dispersion, reduce viscosity and influence production, functionality and physical features such as gloss, tint acceptance, opacity, rheology and durability. We look forward to returning to Paint India to discuss the latest formulation options with decision makers from across the paint and coatings industry.”

Huntsman’s portfolio for the paint and coatings industry includes functional amines, carbonates and polymer derivatives. Products for waterborne coatings include surfactants, emulsifiers, wetting agents, stabilizers, humectants, dispersant intermediates and dispersants. The business also has an extensive portfolio of polyurethane additives that can act as catalysts to give polyether and polyester coatings greater strength, durability and functionality.
