Huntsman’s JEFFSOL® AG-1730 Solvent Approved for Use in Pesticides

The Woodlands, TX - Huntsman's (NYSE:HUN) Performance Products division today announced that it has received US EPA approval for the use of its JEFFSOL AG-1730  solvent in pesticide formulations. The approval, which was published in the Federal Register on May 6, 2009,  allows for the use of the solvent in, or on, growing crops under Federal Regulation 40CFR 180.920.  JEFFSOL® AG-1730 solvent is the morpholine amide of a C8, 10 fatty acid.  Huntsman petitioned the agency on June 13, 2008 for the exemption from the requirement of a tolerance for residues of the Morpholine 4-C6-12 Acyl derivatives (CAS No. 887947-29-7).  Granting of this exemption from tolerance allows the pesticide formulator to use this new solvent in all current and future formulations as a new inert ingredient.

Albert DeCelis, Global Business Director, Agrochemicals said: “This represents a significant opportunity for the industry to move to a new solvent and replace many of the lower flash point and higher volatile solvents.”  Furthermore, DeCelis goes on to say, “ JEFFSOL AG-1730 solvent has relatively low water solubility compared to some of the other newer solvents which see active ingredient solubility issues when used in emulsifiable concentrate formulations on dilution in water”.

JEFFSOL AG-1730 solvent is a low vapor pressure solvent with a high degree of polarity and easily solubilizes troublesome active ingredients.  Formulations using this solvent have been developed for tebuconazole, imidacloprid and synthetic pyrethroids to name a few of the more difficult active ingredients.

Huntsman will provide customers with technical support in developing innovative pesticide formulations at any one of its technical service labs in North America, Europe or Asia-Pacific.
