Huntsman TPU Materials for Machines on the Move

Osnabruck, GERMANY – Equipment manufacturers, producing automated systems for use in smart factories, should visit Huntsman’s stand at K2016, where the business will be promoting a range of TPU cabling materials that are ideal for use in machines that are on the move.

Industry 4.0 – the fourth industrial revolution – is changing the way that things are made. Around the world, smart factories now exist where intelligent, automated systems handle core parts of the production process. Cables lie at the heart of this modern method of manufacturing, which is growing rapidly across all industry sectors – enabling new manufacturing efficiencies and greater traceability. Used to power machines that operate on continuously moving production lines, cables play a vital role in transmitting commands and collecting information on throughput, which can ultimately help improve productivity.

Supporting the drive for digitization, Huntsman has a range of halogen-free IROGRAN® TPUs that can be used to create cables for a variety of static and high flex manufacturing machines. Typical applications include power and sensor cables for industrial robots and tooling systems; cables for robotic arms; drag chain cables; and of course, behind the scenes, general computer and IT wiring systems.

Key products include:

• IROGRAN® A 85 P 4441 – a low friction, highly flexible grade of TPU
• IROGRAN® A 95 P 5044 – a TPU with high mechanical properties
• IROGRAN® A 89 P 5012 FR DP – a TPU with high flame retardancy
• IROGRAN® A 95 P 5003 FR – A TPU with very high flame retardancy.

Across these TPU grades, common characteristics include good oil and chemical resistance; and good wear, tear and anti-fatigue properties plus low temperature flexibility. Huntsman’s IROGRAN TPUs can also be used in other applications where machinery is on the move, transporting objects and people. Typical examples include conveyor belts, lifts and escalator systems; as well as cars, train and aeroplanes.
