Huntsman Polyurethanes to Showcase Resin Technology at SPE ACCE 2015 Technical Conference

Huntsman to exhibit, present and enter “Best Part” competition

Aug. 25, 2015

THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Huntsman Corporation (NYSE: HUN) announced that its Polyurethanes Division will feature its latest polyurethane products for the automotive industry and host a booth at the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) Automotive Composites Conference & Exhibition (ACCE). The event is taking place Sept. 9–11, at The Diamond Banquet & Conference Center in Novi, Michigan. Huntsman has also entered the ACCE “Best Part” competition in conjunction with key customer Bright Lite Structures (BLS).

During the “Best Part” competition, Huntsman will showcase its resin used in the structural carbon fiber honeycomb elements used in the production of the chassis of the Zenos E10 sports car. The advanced honeycomb sandwich panel is an innovative collaboration between the two companies.

Huntsman’s VITROX® resin technology plays a key role in enabling the fabrication of the novel chassis structure. BLS supplies the core and reinforcement package, which results in chassis that are lighter, less expensive and faster to manufacture than those made from conventional composites.

“We look forward to showcasing the adaptability of our VITROX resin by participating in the ‘Best Part’ competition with BLS,” said David Bareis, Composites Sales Manager, Huntsman Polyurethanes.

Additionally, a top Huntsman research scientist will present a paper in the Advances in Thermoset Composites session, and two additional tracks from other companies will address technologies directly enabled by Huntsman’s VITROX or RIMLINE® resins:

• Session 12: Advances in Thermoset Composites - Part 2 of 2
 8:30 to 9 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 10
Marcel Bruijn, Huntsman Polyurethanes, Everberg, Belgium
“Latest Generation of Polyurethane Resins with Superior Process Control for Fast-Cycle Manufacturing of Structural Composites”

• Session 19: Enabling Technologies - Part 2 of 3 - Advances in RTM Technology
 9 to 9:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 11
Ian Swentek, Fraunhofer Project Centre for Composite Research at the Western University, London, Ontario, Canada
“Impact of HP-RTM Process Parameters on Mechanical Properties using Epoxy and Polyurethane”

• Keynote 5
1:30 to 2:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 11
Antony Dodworth, Managing Director, Bright Lite Structures
“A Platform for Novel Lightweight Automotive Composite Structural Design”

“We are pleased not only to be presenting at the conference, but also that our resin technology will be featured in other tracks, including a keynote presentation,” Bareis said.

Huntsman’s exhibit at booth P9 will also demonstrate how customers can utilize the company’s resin technologies in automotive and other applications.

The mission of the SPE ACCE is to inform and update the automotive industry about the increasing significance of thermoset and thermoplastic composites in passenger vehicles, light trucks and other modes of ground transportation.
