Huntsman Publishes White Paper Addressing Air Flow and Water Movement with Spray Polyurethane Foam

The Woodlands, Texas – Huntsman Corporation (NYSE: HUN) announced today its publication of a white paper titled, “Controlling Air Flow and Water Movement with Spray Polyurethane Foam.”

The paper addresses the role spray polyurethane foam (SPF) plays in achieving a tight building enclosure, which can help to create a more energy efficient, durable and healthy living environment in both residential and commercial buildings.

“Indoor air quality, comfort, moisture intrusion and durability remain priorities for builders and architects alike,” said Monica Karamagi, regional marketing and industry affairs manager, Huntsman Polyurethanes. “The building envelope should be the first consideration when creating a living space that is energy efficient, and SPF is the ideal material for constructing a building enclosure. It controls moisture, reduces pollutants, improves air quality, and is a cost-effective solution for lowering heating and cooling costs.”

The white paper addresses the key attributes of a well-designed and successfully installed air barrier system:

• Be impermeable to air flow
• Have sufficient durability over the expected lifetime of the building
• Easily installed around penetrations and openings
• Provide continuous air barrier coverage around the entire building from the roofing system to the below-grade structure

The paper also discusses effective air barrier system design and installation, advantages and disadvantages of several commonly used air barrier materials, relevant building code requirements, and critical ventilation matters HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) contractors should take into consideration.
