Huntsman To Support Ossberger With Launch of New Pressblower Machine at K2022

IROGRAN® TPU will be used to make automotive gaiters at world’s No.1 plastics trade fair

Everberg, BELGIUM – Elastomers experts from Huntsman have been supporting blow molding equipment manufacturer Ossberger as it prepares to launch its latest Pressblower machine at K2022 this October. At the show, Ossberger will unveil the Pressblower SB2-260 – a brand new injection blow moulder designed to produce gaiters for air springs for the automotive industry.

To demonstrate the precision molding capabilities of the new Pressblower SB2-260, Ossberger will use Huntsman’s IROGRAN® A 92 E 4860 thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) on its trade fair stand to produce gaiters with a net weight of about 150 grs., within a cycle time of 27 seconds, i.e. up to 270 gaiters per hour.

Ossberger is internationally renowned for the quality of its blow molding equipment. Boots and bellows produced on Ossberger’s Pressblower machines are used in around 90% of automobiles worldwide – helping to reduce vibrations and create a more stable ride.

During development of the Pressblower SB2-260, Ossberger opted to use Huntsman’s IROGRAN® A 92 E 4860 TPU to test the machine’s capabilities. IROGRAN® A 92 E 4860 TPU is a polyester-based specialty elastomer designed specifically for extrusion and injection molding applications. A popular choice for thick and thin wall technical parts, thick wall extrusion profiles, pneumatic tubes and film and sheet products, the material has a high melt stability and a short cycle time – making it incredibly easy to process.

Parts made with IROGRAN® A 92 E 4860 TPU can also deliver excellent wear performance. Incredibly elastic and lightweight, but capable of delivering high resistance to dynamic stress, abrasion and grease, the material can stand up to the demands of a harsh under-chassis environment – tolerating significant temperature extremes, continual vibrations and debris thrown up from the road.

Explaining more, Klaus Haub, Sales Manager at Ossberger, said: “When it came to demonstrating the Pressblower SB2-260, there were not many material grades we wanted to use. Our final choice was IROGRAN® A 92 E 4860 TPU. It’s an exceptional elastomer that consistently delivers what you need from both a processing and performance perspective. The technical support on offer from Huntsman is also first rate. We are grateful for the team’s input and assistance as we launch our latest Pressblower machine.”

Michael Kolm, Sales Portfolio Manager Specialty Elastomers at Huntsman said: “We are delighted to be supporting Ossberger with the launch of the Pressblower SB2-260. The team’s use of IROGRAN® A 92 E 4860 TPU is a great endorsement for this material, which is already renowned for its reliability and its robustness. We look forward to seeing the material in action, on the new machine, at K, and to expanding our collaboration with Ossberger.”
